Preparing for video counselling sessions

  1. You will receive an email 30 minutes before our session with a link.

  2. Please ensure you are in a private place for the session, and you will feel comfortable speaking freely during the session.

  3. If you are using your phone, you will be prompted to download the Janeapp, if you are using your computer, use the Chrome browser.

  4. Check that your audio and video are working.

  5. If you do not receive the link, text me and I will resend.

  6. Do a speed test at fast.com to check your connection. Position yourself near your router if possible.

  7. If the session connection is too poor, we will revert to a phone session.

Preparing for phone counselling sessions

  1. Please ensure you are in a private place for the session, and you will feel comfortable speaking freely during the session.

  2. Ensure your phone has sufficient battery life and a good signal.

  3. Get ready for the call a few minutes before the scheduled start time.

  4. I will call you at the start of the appointment.

Online counselling sessions

Our online counselling sessions will be like any other session: start on time, end 50 min later, wrap up with booking a new appointment if desired. You will still have the option to book your own appointments online, and then you will receive a receipt via email.

If you are uncomfortable with video platform or do not have access to a private computer, a phone session is also an option. After working for two years on the suicide crisis line, I know that phone sessions, while missing the opportunity for the intimacy of seeing each other, are still highly effective, therapeutic and helpful.

It is important to continue to take care of your mental health during this public crisis, and I hope that you find accessing my services via these online means will be helpful.
